This plugin adds the JW Image Rotator to the WordPress Media.
Table of contents
Description
Short Documentation:
After installation, add a post or page containing the short code [ slide]. You can add other narrative to the post.
Then create a gallery for your post by uploading images to the post. The image insert feature of Wordpress automatically creates the gallery for you. You do not need to insert the pictures themselves into the post.
Once you have your gallery created, you can add captions by editing the gallery pictures individually to add text to the Description field.
Description:
The inspiration for this plugin came from NextGEN Gallery which includes a slideshow. As I always wanted small plugins that doesn’t add unnecessary tables and an unnecessary huge amont of codelines I wrote a small plugin which uses the built in gallery of WordPress for slideshows. You can use it with the new shortcut for slideshows [ slide].
The options:
height: The height of the slideshow. Numeric only!
width: The width of the slideshow. Numeric only!
backcolor: The backcolor of the navigation bar. Hex code only!
frontcolor: The frontcolor of the navigation bar. Hex code only!
lightcolor: The color of the navigation buttons when you hover it. Hex code only!
screencolor: The backgroundcolor of the player. Hex code only!
screenalpha: If you need a transparent screen just set this option “true”.
logo: If you want a watermark you can pass the url through this key. URL to the image file.
transition: Possible values are:
“random”, “fade”, “bgfade”, “blocks”, “bubbles”, “circles”, “flash”, “fluids”, “lines” and “slowfade”
rotatetime: Rotatetime between the pictures. Numeric only!
shuffle: Show pictures randomly. Default false you can set it to “true”.
overstretch: Stretches the pictures to fit the player. Default false you can set it to “true”.
shownavigation: Shows the navigationbar. Default true you can set it to “false”.
usefullscreen: The ability to go fullscreen. Default true you can set it to “false”.
autostart: Starts the slideshow automatically. Default true you can set it to “false”.
flickr: Plays your flickr streem. Pass the RSS-Feed URL:
“http://api.flickr.com/services/feeds/photos_public.gne?id=13085590@N08&lang=de-de&format=rss_200″
picasa: Plays your Picasaweb Web Feed. Pass the RSS-Feed URL:
“http://picasaweb.google.com/data/feed/base/user/michalkrsek?kind=album&alt=rss&hl=en_US&access=public”

Hi,
I have just been looking at your site to check out the screen shows, they look really good for your site.
Do you think they would be suitable for promoting eternity rings?
If so which one would you suggest.
Thank you for any help.
Julie

Sorry but I don’t know what eternity rings are. You may try it to see how it looks.

hi!,
great job with this plugin! i’m using wordpress 2.6.5, but i can’t see where is the painel settings…
thanks,
nelson
1. Dezember 2008 um 18:52
To fix this problem you open wp-gallery-slideshow.php. On line 94 you have the following code:
add_submenu_page('media-new.php', __('WordPress Gallery Slideshow', 'wordpress-gallery-slideshow'), $menutitle, 9, __FILE__, 'wp_gallery_slideshow_options');Change “media-new.php” to “options-general.php” and it should work. I don’t have WordPress 2.6.5 installed so I can’t check if it works.
Hope this helps.

Hi thos,
thanks for your comment. Correct me if I’m wrong but you don’t use WordPress 2.7 or? With WordPress 2.6.5 you can’t see the control panel coz it uses a menu witch isn’t available in WP 2.6.5. I uploaded a version that could be compatible to your WordPress, just change your wp-gallery-slideshow.php with the one in the zip-archive. You get it here.
It would be very nice of you if you could give me a feedback whether it works or not.
Best regards

Hi, Thomas! Thanks for a great plugin. I do have one question. I have the slideshow running on my sidebar. It’s working fine, but it’s showing my wordpress version above the slides. Why is that?
4. Dezember 2008 um 04:24
Hi Becky, thanks for that hint, I didn’t see it. I made an update and now it should be okay. :-)
4. Dezember 2008 um 22:24
hi thomas, really great plugin, but i have two things:
1. the fullscreen button only works in firefox but not in internet explorer (v7).
2. is it possible to display a message to visitors who don’t have flash? currently they just see a big empty space, but it would be good to say something like ‘please download flash player to see this slideshow’ with a link to the flash download page.
thanks!
simon
6. Dezember 2008 um 00:38
Hi Simon,
thanks for your comment.
1. I haven’t created the Image Player so I can’t fix the bug of the IE. But I’m working on an Image Player and it will be included in one of the next updates.
2. It’s possible and I will implement it in the next update. As long as it isn’t you may use a background image on the DIV with the id “slideshow”.
Regards
Thomas
6. Dezember 2008 um 14:24
thanks for your reply thomas,
i’ve been thinking about it, and the perfect thing would be to display the slideshow if the visitor has flash, and the normal gallery if they don’t. of course that’s probably quite a big job for you…!
for now, the background image is good enough for me.
many thanks
simon

koennte man eventuell noch ‘ne mp3 Dateim im Hintergrund zur Slideshow abspielen, oder liegt das dann ausserhalb dessen was dieses Plugin leisten will? Ansosnten klasse Plugin, danke.

hi,

$flickr = urlencode('http://api.flickr.com/services/feeds/photos_public.gne?id=9927986@N08&lang=de-de&format=rss_200');wp_gallery_slideshow("flickr=$flickr&width=200&height=150");
Thomas

danke fuer deine Hilfe Thomas.
9. Dezember 2008 um 13:22
Hi! Wonderful plugin…
I was wondering only how did you add music to the last sample?
9. Dezember 2008 um 17:23
@ovidiu: Set overstretch=false.
9. Dezember 2008 um 17:37
@Oscar: You can add music by adding the tag audio:
[ gallery audio="URL to MP3"]9.
9. Dezember 2008 um 21:32
Versteh jetzt nicht ganz was du meinst.
[gallery order="DESC" columns="5"][gallery slide="1"] [gallery order="ASC" columns="5"]
[gallery slide="1"]
http://pacura.ru/pictures/sunset-concert-kirstenbosch-random-pics/
oder mach ich hier einen Fehler?
10. Dezember 2008 um 21:23
hi ovidiu
it is possible to set the sort order globally, i have changed line 30 of getxml.php so that it sorts my images by the menu order:
$thepictures = $wpdb->get_results("SELECT $wpdb->posts.post_title, $wpdb->posts.post_excerpt, $wpdb->posts.post_content, $wpdb->posts.post_name, $wpdb->posts.guid FROM $wpdb->posts WHERE $wpdb->posts.post_parent = $galleryID ORDER BY $wpdb->posts.menu_order ASC;");(of course, this will sort all slideshows on your website, but this is not a problem as you set the menu order for each post in the wordpress upload window.)
simon
11. Dezember 2008 um 00:32
Hi Simon,
it is possible to hardcode a order by statement. But I wouldn’t advise it because like you said all slideshows will order by this statement and you can order the images in the upload window. The second reason is that I added it on my feature request list and as you saw the last view times my updates come very quickly if it is a easy to implement feature.
But for all of that I thank you for your support on that issue.
Regards Thomas

11. Dezember 2008 um 20:21

13. Dezember 2008 um 20:39
Hallo Thomas
1) Was genau bewirkt die Einstellung “Show searchbar”?
<?php if ($nacht == true) { ?>[ gallery slide="1" screencolor="#333333"]
<?php } else { ?>
[ gallery slide="1" screencolor="#FFFFFF"]
<?php } ?>
15. Dezember 2008 um 11:19
Hi Thomas,
I installed everything accordingly and used [gallery slide="1"] in my page. However, the player is there and tries to load the pictures but nothing happens. Uploaded to pictures which are shown under Media. I’m using Wordpress 2.7. Which image folder does your plugin use ? Many thanks Chris
15. Dezember 2008 um 21:05
[gallery]is the standard gallery tag by WordPress. If you use WordPress to upload images, the images will show up in your slideshow. Another possible way is to use a flickr feed.22. Dezember 2008 um 15:15
Great plugin, which works well in combination with images lightbox plugin (it’s not the case of all slideshow plugins).
Just a suggestion. I had a problem : slideshow xas working well with some posts and not with others. When it was not working well, I found that it was because images’ extension xas “.JPG” instead of “.jpg”.
Modified the code :
if ( strpos( $picture->guid, ‘jpg’ )) {
With
if ( strpos( $picture->guid, ‘jpg’ ) OR strpos( $picture->guid, ‘JPG’ )) {
And now it’s ok!!
Perhasps could you change this for a fututre release ;)
Thanks for this plugin
22. Dezember 2008 um 15:48
Thanks for that hint, I’m going to fix it in the next update.
28. Dezember 2008 um 16:30
Great plugin, but I also have a question
How do you make separate galleries within a post and upload more than one picture per gallery at a time?
28. Dezember 2008 um 18:13
Hey Maz,
thanks for your question. At the moment the built in gallery function of WordPress, where the plugin depends on, doesn’t support different galleries for one post. A possible way would be to create new draft posts for different galleries. Than you just pass the ID of the post to the plugin
[gallery id="xy" slide="1"].In future I planned to extend this feature and a few other ones. But at the moment that’s the only way that might work with the plugin. Sorry for that but I’m currently working on two other plugins which I have to prioritize.
Best Regards
Thomas

Thank you for your comment. I’m glad you like this plugin :-)
30. Dezember 2008 um 00:29
Ich hoffe das hilft ;)
31. Dezember 2008 um 01:24
Hi Thomas,
I am so glad that you actually thought simply and made something wonderfully practical which is not only assessable for developer but also the End-User!
Works like a fly! Now, I am doing the CSS styling, and I am sure it wouldnt be a problem.
Def a donation-dent for this plugin!
I do have a catch. Dont you think that writing “slide=1″ with the gallery tag everytime would make an extra effort from the user?
Is there any way, that it comes automatically with the WP uploader or may be we dont have to write it?
31. Dezember 2008 um 13:35
Hi Faisal,
with the new Version 1.4 there have been many changes. The problem with the
[gallery slide="1"]ist that WordPress uses the[gallery]tag for a standard HTML gallery. I don’t want to disable this function so I had to take the way with aslide="1".The reason I said that there have been many changes is, that beside the still working
[gallery slide="1"]I built in a new shortcode[slide]where you don’t have to set any parameters if you don’t want to.It’s still not possible to use the WordPress Media Library in a way I want. So please give me some further time on that issue :).
I hope you enjoy using the new features of the plugin and wish you a blessed new year.
Regards Thomas

Hi Tomas,
I have been enjoying your plugin for some time now.
Until a few days ago it worked just fine but now I have a strange issue :
When writing a post my “Add Media” buttons are gone… they come back when i deactivate the plugin.
Any idea how I can fix this?
Best regards.
Philippe
5. Januar 2009 um 00:35
Hi Philippe,
thanks for your comment. I’m sorry but there is no code which could affect the behavior of the media buttons in the plugin. So I can’t imagine how this can be fixed. You’re the first person where something like this happens.
May you can give me a list of your activated plugins.

Hi ovidiu,
this style is set in mpf.class.php line 140. But I don’t know why it shows up in your browser.
Regards Thomas
13. Januar 2009 um 12:52
thx :-( it just happened after having updated all plugins (been on holiday for 3 weeks) might be just an incompatibility…
like I said, just cosmetics, I can ignore it.
13. Januar 2009 um 13:11
This is not just cosmetics if it happens with other people too I understand the poor ratings for the plugin. May you can give me a few more details so I can understand why the error occurs?
Regards Thomas
13. Januar 2009 um 13:18
finally I found the reply button :-)
first thing you could heck is to activate the plugin for the admin menus I am using, maybe its an incompatibility between those two:
http://planetozh.com/blog/my-projects/wordpress-admin-menu-drop-down-css/
could you do me another favor and check this page: http://pacura.ru/pictures/mozambique/ with IE6 from your side? I am getting an jquery error, and the slideshow shows just very small while working perfectly in FF3 :-(
13. Januar 2009 um 23:24
You are right, it is not compatible with the Admin Drop Down Menu Plugin. I’m going to check if I can fix that.
For now I checked it with IE7 and the slideshow worked fine. I may have time tomorrow to get me the IE6 and check it again.
19. Januar 2009 um 12:16
did you have time to check this slideshow http://pacura.ru/pictures/mozambique/ in IE6? I am still seeing the slideshow extremely small and there is an jquery error while in Firefox3 all is perfect.
I just need confirmation that the problem is not in the client and maybe a littel hint what else to check?
19. Januar 2009 um 14:37
I just noticed that a page containing a slideshow, shows up as a gallery in the feeds, can this be changed somehow? I am just curious :-)
20. Januar 2009 um 09:23
one more issue:
this plugin seems to interfere with my gallery display/layout.
here is the page before activation of the slideshow plugin: http://screencast.com/t/I7eYlxp3n
this is how it looks after I activate the plugin: http://screencast.com/t/EakPto9twl
btw. I am using the cleaner gallery plugin too: http://justintadlock.com/archives/2008/04/13/cleaner-wordpress-gallery-plugin
20. Januar 2009 um 16:15
Hi ovidiu,
I checked it with IETester but I didn’t get a slideshow. It didn’t even load the slideshow.
The jQuery Error is in Firefox also but it will be fixed as soon as I can spend some time for it.
Regards Thomas
20. Januar 2009 um 18:28
thx. I had another problem, respectively that this plugin seems to screw up my css I use for the galleries :-( I commented here with screenshots, but it seems to have gone to the spam coments, maybe you can recover my comment? commented today.
20. Januar 2009 um 21:46
You’re right, this plugin uses the
[gallery]shortcode like mine does. But I have a small hack for you. Just open the slideshow.php on the line 252 you will find the following statement:add_shortcode('gallery', array($slideshow, 'wp_gallery_slideshow_shortcut'));Set this statement inactive with two slashes:
//add_shortcode('gallery', array($slideshow, 'wp_gallery_slideshow_shortcut'));Now if you need a slideshow just type in the new shortcode
[slide]. It should work with that.20. Januar 2009 um 22:08
:-) sorry for doubting you, will make that adjustment tomorrow and check again, or maybe rather wait until you finish the version that fixes the jquery error?
weird thing is I loved firebug but ever since upgrading to Firefox3 I can’t seem to get it running like it did in FF2 :-( msut be my fault…

same problem here! (and i dont use flickr)
20. Januar 2009 um 23:04
Can you give me a URL?
20. Januar 2009 um 23:05
the gallery tag mentioned above will, if used on a post or page, show a gallery of all pictures associated with that particular post or page.
That means pictures you have uploaded into your media will not automatically show up where you type in gallery, how could wordpress know which pictures to show there?
The whole thing will work if you upload pictures while writing/editing a post, then use the gallery tag inside that post because all pictures uploaded from that post’s editing page, will be linked to that post.
try: write new post, upload pictures, isnert gallery tag, et voila!

Thomas,
Thank you for the plug-in! I agree that this “simple” way of thinking is correct.
Now, of course, I would like to suggest a complication!
I have modified the plug-in for testing to allow a few more options from the imagerotator to be accessed. It was not complicated to add “showicons” to the settings array, which makes a difference for me. Also I made some changes just using the default “shortcode_atts” array, and it’s no problem to add options using that. But why not add the remaining options from imagerotator to the array? Probably there are a few other customers out there for each of the options!
Definitely donating for this plug-in if I can get it working in the published site!
Many Thanks!
26. Januar 2009 um 18:09
Hi Randall,
are there many options left out? May you can post me a list so I can implement it for the next update.
Regards Thomas

Hey Thomas, I got your script installed and it was working for a second, but somewhere along the line.. it just turned into a blank white space. The flash is loaded, but no slideshow.
I’m using multiple loops if that matters. What could I be doing wrong?
27. Januar 2009 um 00:27
sorry about the multiple posts..
the url is @ http://thinkgreen.ciplex.ws
27. Januar 2009 um 01:21
Multiple loops are no problem, your problem is that you need to upload images in the post where you included the slideshow. The post has the ID 308. Just use the WordPress Media Upload:

27. Januar 2009 um 15:32
Thomas,
Thanks for responding. You are right, there are not many options for the slideshow part of imagerotator that you left out. I was confused by all the additional options for video.
However, the ’showicons’ option is important, I think. I don’t need or want any decorations! If you could add that to the admin, it would be much appreciated.
Also, while I was poking around the imagerotator site, I found this:
http://www1.longtailvideo.com/support/forum/Setup-Problems/9117/Picasa-
It looks like maybe it’s not a complete solution, but I thought it worth asking: How difficult would it be to allow a Picasaweb RSS feed as an option?
Thanks!
28. Januar 2009 um 00:43
It just needs a parser. Maybe I’ll include it in the next update but I am not certain.

Hi Thomas,
First let me tell you I love your plugin. Really cool stuff.
I’ve no issues running it in FF but when I tested it in IE7 it only works the first time I load the page. Then, if I reload the page with a gallery or go to a different gallery within the site it displays very small images.
Do you know of a workaround or fix for this?
Thanks!
3. Februar 2009 um 18:03
Hi Thomas
I have installed this plugin to one of my Wordpress sites (using 2.7) and I cannot find the configuration screen you keep pointing out.
It does not appear in Plugin options/editor, it does not appear under Settings > Media, or anywhere else.
I need to be able to configure this plugin, but I am not great at editing PHP. What’s the deal?
Thanks in advance for your help. This is for an important client project.

The configuration should be in the Media menu.

Hello,
I am using WP 2.7. I installed your plugin, uploaded some photos — first tried just by going to Media > Add New and then within a Pages upload/insert image bar.
When I put [gallery slide="1"] on the page where I want it, I just get a black outline with the loading animation. It never loads the photos. I’m sure I’m missing something simple, but I haven’t found it yet. Can you help?
Thanks.

I need an URL.
11. Februar 2009 um 02:45
Hello — I think you were trying to chat with me, but I had too many browser tabs open and missed you. :)
Here is the URL – http://pennylarsenjewelry.com.previewdns.com/ (I just put it on the home page to test for now).
It looks like it is calling the images, but that perhaps the folder structure is off somehow? Could it be because I’m using permalinks?
11. Februar 2009 um 02:46
@Courtney:
You are using previewdns.com but you have set the http://pennylarsenjewelry.com/ as blog home so it produces image urls like http://pennylarsenjewelry.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/home-4.jpg which doesn’t work.

I would prefer to say update but yes you can also reinstall the plugin. After you have done so you can use flickr=”url to photoset rss” and it will work fine.

Hi Thomas,
I was looking at NextGen plugin at first but as I came across your plugin I realized that your way about it is more straightforward and less complicated than NexGen. However after installing the plugin it shows just thumbs from the gallery. Am I missing something. Could you take a look? http://www.moreymetal.com/

Please open getxml.php in wordpress-gallery-slideshow/org/myplugins/slideshow/. On line 87 and on line 117 you’ll find

but after i change that, the slide show is not showing anything just blank screen with the loading sign. But if i change those 15 to 1000, its only play maximum 20 images….

sorry about the many posts earlier, i dont know how to make the code show,

23. Februar 2009 um 12:27
Sorry, I haven’ tested this function since I reprogrammed the plugin. So there is an easy fix for that problem, just open slideshow.php and go to line 282. There you have this function. Change
echo $slideshow->wp_gallery_slideshow_shortcut($result);toecho $slideshow->wp_gallery_slideshow_shortcut($result, 1);. Than it should work.23. Februar 2009 um 19:08
thanks, that took care of the errors but the pictures are showing up
http://sarahashleybarker.com/wp/
23. Februar 2009 um 19:24
i meant the pictures ARE NOT showing up
23. Februar 2009 um 19:39
@shonna:
To get the pictures in it follow this steps:
1. Create a new post.
2. Upload the pictures in this post.
3. Get the ID of this post.
4. Write the ID of this post in your functions attributes.
5. Delete this post.
It is a bit difficult but it should work fine. I usually created this plugin to show a slideshow in posts and WordPress doesn’t have a picture gallery management at the moment.

Hello,
I love the WordPress Gallery Slideshow plugin. Love it! But I’m having difficulty customizing it for my needs. I see there are many options, but how do you activate those? Do you place the code in the WordPress page … something like autostart=”true” >
Or is that something I need to do in the Slideshow options / control panel under “Media” in the WordPress admin interface?
If there’s a FAQ or sample config file, feel free to send me there.

Howdy Thomas,
Great job man. I read all the comments so you wouldn’t have to repeat yourself but still I have a question that wasn’t asked yet and it’s a tricky one. I want anyone who clicks on the image to open fullscreen by default (just like a whole picture – slideshow – was a hiperlink). So I think i need to assign some javascript function recall to the flash object, but what is the function to call? what is a command equal to the “full screen” buttom inside the navigation bar?
i look forward to hearing from you,
biggests regards, thx !!! Thom :)

7. März 2009 um 20:37
Hi,
quick question, how do I generate with CSS a frame around the slideshow ? I can just not catch it with Firebug and I tried already a LOT ! Another question is, where can I edit the text that dissapears when you turned off flash in your browser ? I would like to edit that sentence. Thank you very much ! Donation promised !
8. März 2009 um 00:38
@Alex,
at the settings panel you can just adjust the main options. If you want to use flickr you have to set it in the shortcode like:
[slide flickr="URLtoFlickr"]. The slideshow doesn’t use the complete image library of WordPress just the pictures you uploaded within a specific post are loaded.Regards Thomas
8. März 2009 um 00:43
@Tigger:
I don’t like questions which come with a donation promise! For your first question: You need to set a div-Tag around the slide shortcode
<div class="slideshow"> [slide] </div>. Your second question: Usually the standard WordPress gallery should appear if you don’t have flash turned on. This can be a bug which I will check and update in the next version.Regards Thomas
8. März 2009 um 18:38
Thomas, this looks to be a very nice plugin. I just had a quick question for you. I must sound pretty stupid for asking this, but would I have to upload my images through the WP media uploader to have it integrated through the slideshow? I don’t really like WP image management system, so I would rather try to just load the images from a specific folder where I have the pictures stored.
So I guess what I’m asking is, is there a code that lets me load the images from a folder within my server or a specific url instead of going through WordPress media?
Thanks

It can’t read my photos from wp-gallery. How works xml file. How to tell to script” wchich gallery I want to put as a slideshow.?
Is it posible to play photos from ngggallery?
I have page and just [gallery slide=1] and how to connect file list to the slideshow.

I cant find place where to set list of photos, or gallery to slideshow.

I had a problem with image gallery so I modify a script a little and now works nice with my gallery prepared in nextgen gallery. I know that nextgen galery has a slideshow but this didn’t works fine on my site. Now everything is easy to prepare and easy to configure. (I think)
My modyfications:
$thepictures = $wpdb->get_results(”SELECT wp_ngg_pictures.alttext, wp_ngg_pictures.description, wp_ngg_pictures.sortorder, wp_ngg_pictures.filename, wp_ngg_gallery.path FROM wp_ngg_gallery, wp_ngg_pictures WHERE wp_ngg_pictures.galleryid = wp_ngg_gallery.gid AND wp_ngg_pictures.galleryid =$galleryID ORDER BY wp_ngg_pictures.sortorder $order;”);
foreach ($thepictures as $picture) {
if ( strpos( $picture->filename, ‘jpg’ )) {
echo ” \n”;
if (!empty($picture->description))
echo ” “.substr(strip_tags(stripslashes($picture->description)),0,50).”\n”;
else if (!empty($picture->alttext))
echo ” “.substr(stripslashes($picture->alttext),0,50).”\n”;
else
echo ” “.$picture->filename.”\n”;
echo ” “.”http://www.mysite.pl/”.$picture->path.”/”.$picture->filename.”\n”;
echo ” \n”;
}
}

Hi Thomas,
I’m just getting started with your plug in and it looks great!
Two things I can’t figure out:
Like the earlier poster asked about, is it possible to make clicking on the image take you to a full-size version?
And can the caption/navigation be styled? In my current use, the nav on the right and left go out of the frame and so do longer captions.
Thanks for any help and a great plugin.
17. März 2009 um 23:18
Hey nice plugin!
I have a question about the way the plugin stretches and squashes photos. For photos that are horizontally oriented (larger width than height), it seems that the plugin forces the image to fill whatever dimensions have been set in the WordPress Gallery Slideshow options page. This isn’t always desirable, especially when working with photos coming from several cameras with different aspect ratios. Is there a way to preserve the aspect ratio of the photos?
I posted another question about the plugin and centering it in a page over on the WordPress support forums.
Thanks!
Douglas

At the moment it is not possible to set a folder as image source. You have 3 opportunities:

2. Upload the images to flickr and add the flickr stream.
3. Upload the images to picasaweb and add the picasa rss feed.

Thanks so much for your efforts. Since the update of NextGen Flashviewer, the slideshow is broken or at least near impossible to configure accurately. You have made it possible to have a slide show and use the new nextgen without havinr to compromise.
I do have one slight problem… after following closely how to get everything working, I have had great success with it all except the transparency. I seem to have a black background for the total size of the player box even when displaying images that are smaller. So I can not somehow get the black background to show the page. no transparency. Is anyone else having trouble getting transparent background to work using the screenalpha code set to true?
Thanks

Thanks for your efforts. I used this code and also used it without the align-=center but to no avail the transparent does not work. The second thing I ran into was trying to add an additional image. It was a png with transparency just to see what would happen with transparency but seems adding another image to the uploaded images of the post does not show the additionally added image in the imagerotator. The new image shows in the gallery when not using the wordpress-gallery-slideshow but it seems that all images to the slideshow must be added the first time and not after the initial creation of the gallery. I could be wrong however, I am not perfect so who knows.
But thanks again for your effort in trying to help.
Miss MacJedi
26. März 2009 um 06:47
OK Thomas… Adding new photos to the existing ones seems impossible at this moment. Getting transparency to work seems impossible. Using the NextGen Flash slideshow is at best a disaster with the newest release. You have a fantastic idea and I am not willing to abandon it. So I believe there is always a work around for everything that can make happiness during project developments and this is what I did. FLICKR is now the way to go for being able to add and remove images. As for the transparence, a compromise was made and that is a SUDO skin for the wordpress-gallery-slideshow. If I can’t have transparency I want a beautiful frame around my slideshow and so it is done.
I think you have done a great thing, not working like I want it to but an answer to prayers non the les.
All my warmest feelings to you for your efforts.
here is my test page to look at again http://illusionproductions.com/main/graphics-gallery/?preview=true&preview_id=136&preview_nonce=16edacb4c9
I am not yet very familiar with Flickr. Can I create different streams in Flickr and have a different set of images for different posts and or pages.
Again thank you so much for your efforts, I look forward to see how you polish this project off.
A big hug from me to you.

Got it on the Flickr thing… create a different set in Flickr then view the new sets page and at the bottom is the orange rss logo… right click and copy the url. This is the next Flickr set so many different sets can be created for many different pages.
Great job adding Flickr Thomas!

Hi – Will this work with a photo RSS feed from SmugMug? Hoping so – thanks! Alexa

Thomas,
I put the plugin on the header.php template with the following code:
I changed that other code on line 282 so no errors show up, but now I get square thumbnail images instead of a slide show. They have attachment ids and there is no slideshow (fade in, out etc). What am I doing wrong? I need this for a deadline tomorrow so if you wouldn’t mind helping me I would really appreciate it.
Thanks,

Hey Thomas
I seem to have found as azral did a limitation of this plugin as it will only show at most 20 images when using with Flickr. Have you found any work around for showing more than 20 images?
azral quoted below
Thomas…. thanks…..
but after i change that, the slide show is not showing anything just blank screen with the loading sign. But if i change those 15 to 1000, its only play maximum 20 images….
any other way to increase the slide show?

Hi.
I’d love to use this, it looks good, but I have no idea how to get it up on a post.
How about you share a little incite on that to us new to Wordpress who have no idea what a “shortcode” is, and have never done anything involving a gallery on Wordpress?
This is what Id like to see in the “Read Me” file:
== Installation ==
1. Install `wp-gallery-slideshow` through the ‘Plugins’ menu in WordPress
2. Activate the plugin through the ‘Plugins’ menu in WordPress
3. Change the settings through the ‘Media’ menu in WordPress
4. EVERYTHING ELSE YOU LEFT OUT.
5. You now have a post with this gallery on it.
Thank You.

11. April 2009 um 10:51

I have more than one because the other two are Flickr and Picasa photos. You can use that feature too. Create a picasa web album and write the rss url to that album in the shortcode:
[ slide picasa="RSS_to_Picasa"]11. April 2009 um 10:56
@tom
I think you didn’t use
<?php wp_head(); ?>in your header.php.11. April 2009 um 11:06
@Nate
At first you have to install the plugin. Now you can change some settings in your backend through your Media menu in Worpress. If you are at this point you nearly have a slideshow in your post.
1. Upload images in your specific post.
2. Add the shortcode
[ slide]in your post.That’s it.
11. April 2009 um 22:54
OK, now I’m just being a pest, hahah.
In IE7 the gallery shrinks when you refresh and also when you go to the post on it’s own page. It then displays in at like 50 percent the size or smaller.
How to fix?
Thanks, and thanks for the great plug in.
14. April 2009 um 19:03
Nope its not that, well actually it could be as I have no PHP experience I just used plain old html as my header and saved it as a php. appears is nested in the tags – not sure if thats correct but it still doesn’t work if I put it in the tags.
Any other thoughts?
16. April 2009 um 14:58
Hi Nate, I was looking for the same solution. Found that adding:
flashvars.height = ‘$height’;
flashvars.width = ‘$width’;
in the flashvars section of:
wordpress-gallery-slideshow/org/myplugins/slideshow/slideshow.class.php
Clears the problem right up.
Other than this issue, I’ve found it to be a great plugin. Thanks Thomas.

I’m having the same problem as some other people: “in IE7 it only works the first time I load the page. Then, if I reload the page with a gallery or go to a different gallery within the site it displays very small images.” I tried to use Wes code, but it didn’t work, it shows the imagens as a simple Wordpress gallery. Any ideas how to fix this?
16. April 2009 um 21:36
WES, thanks!
Anyone else using that fix, be sure to delete the apostrophes (’) around $height and $width and type them back in.
Just straight copying and pasting from here didn’t work, it made it completely disappear.
I’ve run into the problem before, though, so I figured out the problem right off.

Fantastic plugin. I do have one problem. Upon initially loading the page with a gallery slideshow attached, everything looks perfect, with the navigation correctly displayed at the bottom of the image container. Cool plugin, everything seems to be working but I cannot get the slideshow to display more than three images (I have 5 uploaded). I am using this on a page so I am wondering if that may be the problem?? Or is there some way to set how many images to go through??
The plugin is pretty straight forward so I am a bit confused as to why this is happening.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hallo Thomas,
See http://www.convex-consultants.de
Es funktioniert jetzt einigermaßen. Hoffentlich dauerhaft?

Thomas, thank you for the plugin. It works great! I decided to make the change suggested by simon above. I only mention because this seemed sensible to me. In fact, that is how I originally tried to change the order of the slideshow (by changing the menu order).

I love your plugin. This is just what I needed.
This maybe a silly question, and a documentation might already exist somewhere on your site, but I’m working on a tight deadline and couldn’t figure it out myself, so please help!
How can I specify the order of the pictures in a slideshow? I changed the “order” when I uploaded the images, but they are showing up in a random order when I view the slideshow.

Thank you for your response, Thomas.
I’ve searched wrodpress.com for some documentation on WP gallery, and found how to order photos within a gallery. I followed the instruction and edited the code as below,
[slide order="DESC"]but the images are still showing up in a random order…
Sorry for the multiple posts for a silly question, but I need help!
Thank you
Tomiko
ps, when I followed the link in your response, I got to a blank page.
20. Mai 2009 um 11:22
@tomiko:
I’ll try to explain how you can order the photos:
1. You click on edit the post where you have your photos uploaded.
2. Above the WYSIWYG Editor you have the “Add files” Buttons where you click on “Add Image”.
3. A window opens. Click on gallery.
4. You see all photos you have added to this post.
5. You have the photo on the left side, next to this little thumb is the title of the photo then there is a small textbox and a link to view this photo.
6. In this small textbox you write a number.
7. If you have given a number to all your photos, this is your new order.
Now you should be able to order all photos in the way you want …
Regards Thomas

@CAde:
Find out the ID of the post you have uploaded the images to. Then you have to write
show_slideshow('id=PostID');in your sidebar. You can also give some more attributes like width, height, bgcolor, …Regards Thomas

Thank you for speedy response sir. i tried to add the above code but still not luck. many variations were tried. there is only one post and when i head to the page it says =1
I’m guessing that means the id=1
is this what i am aiming for. sorry for my ignorance. very new to this all.
Thank you

26. Mai 2009 um 14:15
Hi,
is it possible to align the images center ?
I’ve tried that in wordpress but I’d guess there is a problem with alignment since [slide] is only a spacer ?!

I am using the “Wordpress Gallery Slideshow” plugin v1.5.4 and I have noticed that it does not work on IE8. I am using IE8 with all Windows updates and Flash 10.0.22.87 (just now reinstalled it, so it is the newest version).
I have not tried it with IE6 or IE7, but my fiancee said she tried my website at my parents’ house and the slideshow did not work there either and I believe they have IE7.
I am using it with a Picasa web gallery. The plugin seems to pick up the names of the files and the number of photos, but simply shows the wheel spinning around forever.
It works fine in Firefox 3.0.10.
In IE8, I get the “Done, but with errors on page” warning. When I open the error, I see the following. Please note that I have not altered the swfobject.js file mentioned in any way:
“Webpage error details

Where did my previous comment go? I had a big long one stating that I cannot get this plugin to work properly on my site with the Internet Explorer browswer (v7 or 8). I am using it with a Picasa web album, which is set to public, and yes I am using the RSS link.
Under IE it shows the black box and the loading wheel forever. It does show the correct image count (57 after I updated getxml.php) and the image filenames. But the images never appear and it just stays black.
I’m using v1.5.4 of this plugin and it works fine under Firefox 3.0.10.
I was getting a Javascript error on my site under IE which I traced to the Sashin plugin, but even with that plugin disabled the Wordpress Gallery Slideshow plugin does not work properly for me under IE.

Hallo Thomas,

It would be very nice if you could give me the url of your site so I can check it.

27. Mai 2009 um 11:59
@king71:

29. Mai 2009 um 16:40

If you want to use local saved images you need to upload them directly in the post. Use the mediauploader right above the left corner of your editor where you can see “Upload/Insert”.

I have an answer: How can i use two different slideshows with local images on the same page?
Is this possible?
THanks! a lot!

Actually that’s not possible. But there is a hack how you can get it to work. Find a post where you don’t have uploaded any images too, upload the images you need as gallery in this post and add the id of this post to your
[slide id="TheID"]statement.Regards Thomas

That’s the correct syntax, but you are right – it doesn’t work at the moment. I’m not sure what’s wrong with it but it seems there is a problem with fetching some RSS feeds via the WordPress RSS class. As soon as I found the problem I’ll update the plugin.

Hi Thomas
I really like the plugin. Using it on my danish musiczine. I do, though, have a problem with the text inside the navigation of the slideshow. It seems like the text is beeing cut off at the end…(example: http://www.undertoner.dk/2009/05/marissa-nadler-270509-loppen-k%c3%b8benhavn/)
Do you have any idea about how this bug can be solved?

OK, how about some simple but decent documentation for the newbie? Like:
After installation, add a post or page containing the short code [slide].
5. Juni 2009 um 02:43
Hi, the slideshows look great. Can the slideshow be added to a text widgets in sidebar and footer? And can I add more than one size slide show on my site — like a large for the post and a smaller one in the sidebar or footer?

@Joni:
Yes that’s possible with the show_slideshow() function. There are a few comments in here which explain this function.
It is also possible to show it smaller than in posts. I would set the standard height and with for posts in the options panel and deviating sizes in the function. For that you write
show_slideshow("height=123|width=123|id=IDofThePost");You need the ID of the post where you have uploaded the pictures in.

Hallo Thomas,

11. Juni 2009 um 20:00
Thomas, I love the look and simplicity of your plug-in, but I can’t seem to get it working.
Here is the link to my page (it’s my test site)
http://markfive.org/wp/?p=52
I am running WP 2.7.1. I have tried the most basic usage by putting [slide] in my post and inserting a gallery of a few pictures. I have removed your plug-in and re-installed it once already. I downloaded it a second time to ensure I got a fresh copy. If you click where the slide show should be you can see the box, but nothing loads. I have reverted the theme to the default to make sure that was not causing a problem. I have also tried linking the thumbnails to either the image file or the attachment page, but that makes no difference either. I also attempted switching my configuration from PHP 5 to PHP 4, again no change. I have left the Slideshow options at their defaults.
Any suggestions? I am running out of ideas. I can tell your plug-in is trying to work because when I disable it the [slide] tag appears in my post. Also, your demo on this page works in my browser, so I know it is something with my site.

I just took a look at your site and it seems working, isn’t it?
If not just let me know so we can go on.

Hi!
Requires at least: 2.7
Tested up to: 2.7.1
Einen Versuch wars also wert.

when using [slide flickr"url2flickr"] can we only pass url to whole public gallery, or can we use the url-rss feed of a photo set?

Hallo Thomas,

@activista:
Sorry for the late answer. You are right it will “only” display 15 images. That is a setting in the WordPress integrated RSS-reader and for now it can not be changed – furthermore it should not be changed to more images because it then will need more time fetching it. Hope this answer helps.
Edit: I’m to fast clicking and to lazy reading …
The order can’t be changed inside the plugin it uses the order it gets by the RSS-Feed.

Hello Thomas! I think this plugin is exactly what I need for a client’s site. Any thought as to if/when it will be WP 2.8-compatible? The main problem I’m seeing so far is that the sidebar with the “Save” button isn’t rendered on the settings page, although I can see the HTML in the generated source code.

2. Juli 2009 um 18:04
Wonderful! Simple! This is nearly what I have been looking for!
Recommendations:
1. I would like to select particular photos (based on their IDs, rather than the post ID) for display (idea here: http://mfields.org/wordpress/wordpress-plugins/mf_gallery_shortcode/), and,
2. (What @Farrukh was asking for) Be able to specify where the photo caption comes from. Right now, caption display appears to default first to Caption, and if no Caption, the File Name (yes?), but I’d also like to be able to choose Title (a.k.a. what WP uses as alt text) as the caption.
